Spotswood College's Aidan Zittersteijn raked in another indoor bowling accolade at the weekend, taking out the national secondary schools single title.

Zittersteijn went through the singles event in Wellington unbeaten to successfully defend his crown, beating Matthew Farquhar of Taupo's Tauhara College 11-7 in the final.

The 17-year-old was largely untroubled on his way to the title, with six of his eight matches being won by more than two shots.

Fellow Spotswood representative Ryan Vincent finished in a tie for ninth place, while Hawera High School trio Ronan Taylor, Emma Muggeridge and Tyler Gullery were ousted in round one, two and the quarterfinals respectively. Inglewood High School's Foden Petersen was also beaten in round one.

Zittersteijn teamed up with Vincent in the double competition, but the pair failed to recreate Zittersteijn's singles form as they fell in the opening round to eventual runners up Sam Anderson and Racharn Eagle of Horowhenua College 8-4.

Of the 14 teams to qualify for the main draw in the pairs competition, five were from Taranaki - including Hawera's Todd Soothill and Nicole Bennett who played off for third against fellow Taranaki team Megan Jackson and Rebecca Schrader from St Mary's Diocesan School. The Hawera pairing took the bronze with a 15-4 win.

On the back of his singles form, Zittersteijn was named joint player of the tournament alongside Seamus Curtin of Aotea College.
