Boys' High advance in national tournament

A countback of sets won was needed for New Plymouth Boys' High School to edge past Francis Douglas Memorial College and advance to the next stage of the national knock-out competition.
Having hosted the Super 8 tennis tournament at Pukekura this week, Boys' High ended up meeting Francis Douglas for fifth place. Although not traditionally involved in Super 8 tournaments, Francis Douglas had been invited to attended after one of the schools pulled out.
Because they were scheduled to meet, it was decided to also play the tie as a zone play-off in the national knock-out tournament.
At the end of the singles matches the score was 2-2 with the tie to be decided by the doubles matches.
In the No 1 match, Caleb Fleming and David Barnard (Francis Douglas) beat Jayden Harrison and Andrew Hood on a super tie breaker. In the No 2 match, Kristian Revfiem and Jack Mitchell (Boys' High) beat Jackson Sinclair and Jeremy Gopperth.
That left the tie at 3-3 with a countback of sets won going Boys' High's way. They will know advance to play the winner of the Manawatu zone.
In the Super 8 final, Tauranga Boys' High School beat Palmerston North Boys' High School.
