Taranaki trio make NZ basketball squads

Three Taranaki teens have been selected in national basketball squads for tournaments across the Tasman.
Parris Mason and Caitlin O'Connnell have been picked in the New Zealand under-16 girls' team while Raquel Sampson has been selected in the New Zealand select under-16 squad.
The trio were picked following trials in Auckland in December and January.
They now have training camps back in Auckland in February, April, May and June before the New Zealand squad head to Sterling in Western Australia for the Australian Junior National Championships.
The select squad will travel to Melbourne to compete in the Medibank Classic against Australian club sides.
Despite being named in separate teams, head coach Natalie Visger said the players had trained a lot together and the two squads would be preparing closely during their camps.
"So far we have been doing pretty much everything together, and we will continue to work together to train individual skills and fundamental team skills.
"All of us as a staff agree that rebounding and defence are the backbone of great teams, and we hope to build those while adding our own twists along the development pathway."
