TSSSA & the YMCA have teamed up to bring you a Climbing Opportunity! Check out the events calendar to see how you can get involved in the action!
Climbing qualifiers run through the first 8 weeks of Term 3, with finals held on 17th September.
There are three main types of climbing competition: lead, speed, and bouldering.
In lead climbing, the competitors start at the bottom of a route and must climb within a certain time frame, making sure to clip into pre-placed quick-draws along the route. Speed climbing with the person that can climb the route the fastest is the winner. Bouldering competitions consist of climbing short problems with the emphasis on number of problems completed.
There are plenty of opportunities in climbing for Secondary school students - Climbing New Zealand regularly send a team to the World Youth Championships. For more information visit the Climbing New Zealand webpage.
