The Taranaki Youth Forum is a leadership opportunity for years 7-13s at selected intermediates & all Secondary Schools designed to INSPIRE . EMPOWER . IMPACT the next generation of young leaders.
The Youth Forum is a 2-day event delivered by TSSSA & Sport Taranaki. Established in 2018, the goal is to empower youth from the region to become active leaders in the community through sport.
The 2nd edition of the Taranaki Youth Forum is happening on the 12th & 13th of February 2019. Expressions of interest are now open and Taranaki Secondary School students are encouraged to download an expression of interest form, fill it in and return it to their school sports coordinator before February 1st. Note that individual schools will make the final decision on which students attend the event.
We are excited to announce our guest speakers for the 2019 event:
Michaela Blyde - In 2018, current Black Ferns 7s player Michaela Blyde was named World Rugby Womens' 7s Player of the Year. Michaela is going to share her journey from grassroots rugby in Taranaki to wearing the black jersey. Michaela will give insight into her life as a professional rugby player and speak on what leadership means to her.
Jamie Allen - Jamie is the co-founder of Taranaki Retreat and is passionate about community, whanau and individual well-being. His background in teaching, and working with young people is a key part of his outreach work through the Retreat. Jamie says, "I'm privileged to be a part of the Youth Forum, and am looking forward to the opportunity to listen, learn and share some tools for wellness and resilience. Bring it on...!."
Jamie Turner - Jamie is a Waitara local and at present the Australian Elite Triathlon Coach. In 2016, Jamie coached Gwen Jorgensen, of the USA to an Olympic Gold Medal.
